A veteran of film and television since starring in David Lean's Doctor Zhivago, Chaplin has worked with many highly acclaimed directors. She starred in Martin Scorsese's Age of Innocence; Franco Zefferelli's Jane Eyre; Robert Altman's Remember My Name, Nashville, and Buffalo Bill and the Indians; Richard Attenborough's Chaplin; Alan Rudolph's The Moderns and Welcome to L.A.; and James Ivory's Roseland.

Other film credits include the 1974 version of The Three Musketeers, A Duel of Love, White Mischief, Return of the Musketeers, I Killed Rasputin, Innocent Bystanders, I Want to Go Home, Crimetime and The Eyes of Asia, among others. Recently, Chaplin was seen in Jody Foster's comedy, Home for the Holidays.

For television, Chaplin starred in Charles Sturridge's Gullivers Travels, with Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, Mother Theresa, A Foreign Field, Stay Lucky, My Cousin Rachel and The Odyssey.
