In late 2000, he directed Twelfth for Company B, Australia's most cutting-edge theater producers. Roxburgh's theatre credits also include Neil Armfield's production of The Seagull, and Hamlet, for which Roxburgh received the Sydney Theatre Critics' Circle Award for Best Actor. Roxburgh has also starred in Closer for director Marion Potts, The Homecoming directed by Rodney Fisher, and Burn This directed by Wayne Harrison, all for the Sydney Theatre Company. Roxburgh's direction of the adaptation of the novel That Eye The Sky, for Burning House Theatre Company, won the Sydney Theatre Critics' Circle John Tasker Award for Freelance Director. He won a Silver Logie for Most Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series and an AFI nomination for Best Actor for his critically-acclaimed lead performance, based on the legendary corrupt Sydney cop Roger Rogerson, in the television drama Blue Murder.
