Jeanne Balibar studied drama at the Conservatoire National d'Art Dramatique and dance at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, before appearing in her first film, Arnaud Desplechin's La Sentinelle. Her subsequent credits include: Desplechin's My Sex Life .. or How I Got Into an Argument, Olivier Assayas' Late August, Early September (which earned her a Silver Shell for Best Actress at the San Sebastian International Film Festival), Benoît Jacquot's Sade and Raoul Ruiz's Comedy of Innocence. Balibar served on the jury of the 2001 Venice International Film Festival.
