Lalo Schifrin is a six-time Oscar nominated film and television composer and four-time Grammy award winner who composed the score for the original Rush Hour. He is acclaimed as one of the most respected and prolific composers writing for the screen today. Born in Argentina, he received classical training there and in Paris, and eventually became a pianist and arranger for Dizzy Gillespie in 1958.
Since then, he has composed more than 100 scores for such films as Enter the Dragon, Bullitt, Cool Hand Luke and Dirty Harry, and such classic television shows as Mannix and, most memorably, Mission: Impossible, which was recently voted by TV Guide readers as the favorite musical theme of any CBS show in the network's 50-year history.
This August, Schifrin will release the CD Intersections: Jazz Meets the Symphony No. 5 on Aleph Records. He is currently completing a symphony commissioned by the Sultan of Oman which will be recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Schifrin, in October.
