Sci-fi Scriptwriter (Sun Oct 5, 2008 8:20pm ET)report post
by JJ Diambrini-Palazzi
Am a sci-fi writer (movie and TV) particilarly interested in capturing the interest and imagination of women into this all too often male genre. GODZ GARDEN is the first of three scripts (currently being re-written for TV) I'd love Ms Campion to look over. Would really appreciate her ideas and response to the storyline. She can contact me via my email or if she wishes through my entertainment lawyer, by rquest.
Thank you for your time and attention.

I have songs for Jane Campiom (Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:13pm ET)report post
by Judy Miller
Hi,
I am from South AFrica and born 3 days before Ms. Campion. I have been a searcher for years and written inspiration and moving songs for 18 years which only this year I have decided to record. I would love to get a CD to Jane Campion for her to listen to if she were ever to want something on a soundtrack if the theme of the movie were about searching for oneself, growth, etc etc. I am undiscovered but know I have good material. Thank you.

Help!! (Wed Nov 24, 2004 8:13am ET)report post
by Nicola Davidson
Hey, i'm new to this forum, but i'm currently doing my A-levels and i'm undergoing Critical Research on Jane Campion and the Representation of women in her films. I would be rerally grateful if you would help me by answering a few questions on the three films, 'The Piano', 'in the Cut' and 'A Portrait of a Lady'.

1. Can you define what you understand the word FEMINISM to mean?

2. What do you understand about the representation of women in the three films listed above?

3. What themes and issues do you think were being portrayed in these films?

feminism is about being girly, and proud of it, but in an emotive and forceful way. its like someone who is proud of their roots and does not want to conform to the ways of others to defy their stereotype. feminism is about having the balls to stand up for womens rights, against discrimination of women and changing peoples opinions of women.

i've only seen the piano and i nearly fell asleep watching it (very boring). it portrays women as sexual, powerful and occasionally dominant over the men.

themes and issues???.....hmmmm......let me think... maybe the reversal of gender roles with the man taking on the submissive and more traditionally female role?... exploring sexuality?...i don't really know sorry

best of luck with the research nicola.
hope i could help though, seeing as no one else has bothered replying.

I can't find any way to let Jane Campion or Nicole Kidman know that they would be capable of a fantastic adaptation of Kate Chopin's The Awakening, and they should check it out!

i am studying jane campion for my media A level, particularly her work as a female director and how her perspectives differ as she works independently from Hollywood. i would be grateful if anyone has any extra information or opinions on her which i could include. do people see her as a feminist? what makes her films different? any opinions on the actors/actresses she uses?
any feedback at all would be useful as it proves that there is interest in her work.
thank you

Women in film (Tue May 18, 2004 11:48am ET)report post
by Ed Harvey
Hello. I am also studying jane campion for my media studies. My research is: The relationship between women filmmakers and the film industry, with specific focus on Jane Campion. I have found alot on Campion with regards to her life and films, but little about her thoughts on the difficulties and bias that women filmmakers face. If anyone has any information, or even personal thoughts on the subject, I would appreciate your aid. Thanks alot.

I read with interest the other day that Jane Campion is an anthropologist. Week-end Australian March 27-28. She has read extensively Freud and Jung etc.. If she's an anthropologist that is precisely where the difference is. No wonder I loved 'The Piano'.

In The Cut (Mon Feb 2, 2004 10:53am ET)report post
by Anne N. Iwobi
In the past, until recently, I have hugely enjoyed Jane Campion's films for its intelligence and seeking out the important aspects of human existence and representing them fairly.

I was so shocked and revolted to watch 'In The Cut', her latest film, to see the derogatory and gratuitous way that she portrayed urban Black people: male and female.

She pandered to all the nasty and evil stereotypes that have been historically associated with Black people: sexually licentious, rapists, inarticulate the list goes on.

It really amazes me how when you dig deep down, White people always, even without provocation, their evil hatred towards Black people.

When we say that it is they that have a problem with race, it stands as a fact.

To say that we -always- have hatred is just as racial as anything Jane Campion has done. Don't deal in absolutes and stereotypes, you know it's wrong no matter which side it's thrown from. Many black people have a problem with race too, which I personally think is starting to disappear since their race has pretty much taken over commercial society (music, sports, etc.), which is the only part of society that much of our younger generations are concerned with anymore. I think that once the two oldest generations (Baby boomers and the generation before them) have gone, there will be much less chip on the shoulders of black men and women, since there will really be no one left who's "hip" and doesn't look up to and/or spend a great deal of their time and money on things done and produced by black people, which believe it or not, greatly increases the profile of the average black person. I should know, all of the white women I fall for seem to end up with black men. Smile Maybe this is just my perception, coming from the lower-middle-class industrial part of society.
