About Shiloh/Shiloh Season

Two superb family films based on the beloved books by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor invite you to open your heart to a remarkable beagle named Shiloh...and to Marty (Blake Heron), the boy who rescues the young dog from mistreatment. The dog's owner wants him back. Yet Marty is determined to find a way to make Shiloh his own. "An ideal movie for parents and children to see together, and talk about afterward," Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times. The sequel Shiloh 2 Shiloh Season could spark even more discussions. In it, Shiloh's heroism, kindness and forgiveness sets an example for Marty (Zachary Browne). Michael Moriarty and Rod Steiger are among the grown-up stars of these films that know well the special bond that can only come from a special canine friend.

rating: 4 Quoteentertaining; quite different from the bookQuote
My own children enjoyed the movie, although it is quite different from the book, with the book being much better, as is usually the case. My class of 5th graders viewed the film as a follow-up to reading the novel in class. (They too, preferred the book.) The two titles on one DVD is a good deal. April 21, 2008
