About The Longest Drive

The two Beaudine Bothers refuse rancher Hatcher's offer to go on his cattle drive but change their minds when he is shot. So they head out with six other riders, a cook and a recuperating owner heading 1500 cows towards Colorado 1000 miles away. Along the way they will face accidents, Indians, two of the riders aiming to rustle some of Hatcher's cattle and flee, squatters demanding money, a stampede, and a lack of water.

Please be warned that this is NOT the pilot for the series "The Quest", as might be assumed from the cast list. You won't find Brian Keith and Cameron Mitchell anywhere on this DVD, which, as other reviewers have pointed out, is really just a two-part episode from the series itself. While the two-parter itself is fairly good, it doesn't hold a candle to the pilot. Oh, how I wish that one was on DVD! December 18, 2008

I did enjoy the movie but was a bit disappointed because I thought they would look and maybe find their sister. I think that Kurt Russell and Tim Matheson are great actors and did good in this movie. August 21, 2007

rating: 3 QuoteThe only episode of "The Quest" that has been released on dvd...Quote
The previous reviewer obviously doesn't know that this "movie" is actually a two hour episode of the short lived series "The Quest". The Boudine brothers were seperated as boys when the wagon train their family was traveling with was attacked by the Cheyenne and the boys' parents were killed. The boys each thought the other had died in the attack, Quentin being rescued and raised in the east and Morgan being captured and raised by the Cheyenne (Morgan "Two Persons" is not a half-breed even though some people they run into call him one because of the way he is dressed). The brothers are reunited when everyone is massacred in the Cheyenne band that Morgan is living with (the only reason he survives is because the soldiers see his "bleach blonde hair" and realize that he is not Cheyenne. In the series the brothers are searching for their younger sister who was also taken by the Cheyenne but was living with a different band than her brother Morgan.

Since this is an episode of a television series don't expect an Oscar quailty movie. And, since it is from the '70's it is not politically correct.

Still, it is an entertaining flick although definitely not high art. If you like Tim Matheson and/or Kurt Russell you will probably enjoy this "movie". If you are a fan of The Quest this may be the only way to get any part of the series on dvd. December 21, 2006

I purchased this movie about 10 years ago soley based on the duo of Kurt Russell and Tim Matheson and their "eye catching appeal". I'm embarrassed to say that I continue to hold onto it for that reason. Matheson portrays a young doctor(Quentin Baudine) and Russell his half-breed half-brother (Morgan(Two Persons)Baudine). On their way to find their sister who has been captured by indians, they decide to take time out to help save an old friend's ranch,(this movie was obviously not well thought out)by rounding up a gang of misfits to drive his herd of cattle to market. Together, the Bodine brothers along with a stableman, retired gunslinger, a dried-out drunk and a couple of sneaky rustlers prove their grit as they fight to stay alive against hostile indians, stampedes, drought, and just plain bad luck! Matheson and Russell are convincing (aside from Russell's bleach-blonde hair), but young and unpolished in this one and since then have gotten better "with age". Keenan Wynn is hysterical, wonderful performance by Gregory Walcott, beyond that the acting isn't impressive and its downright corny at times, but... the movie is action-packed and entertaining and girls--it's worth watching just to feast your eyes on Matheson and Russell, these 2 studs will captivate you! Speaking of STUDS, Erik Estrada is also in this one! It's a keeper! April 5, 2001
