This movie is like a bad train wreck. You want to turn away from it, but you just can't because it's so bad. I mean, think about it. A bunch of kids who hang around in a tree house, doing good deeds for the fellow citizens, like Mrs. Jenkins, who is constantly falling down despite their many efforts to save her. Furthermore, they visit the local convenience store, where their good deeds are rewarded with BUTTER CREAM BARS. Do you see where I'm getting at? It's all in how you look at it. I mean, the dude who wrote and directed this film must've had a perfect childhood in some far off land where he was shielded from all contact with REAL people. REAL civilization is something that this man knew nothing about. His idea of rebellion was stealing candy and butter cream bars from a general store, as you see in the film - when the leader of the group becomes a "rebel" after he moves away and joins the local "gang", and then shortly after steals a few "butter cream treats" for his buddies - who all react in wide eyed horror over what he just did. You see? This movie manipulates. It is DANGEROUS. Life doesn't happen that way! We should ALL steal butter cream bars! But first of all, we need to find out one thing: where in the HECK do you find those things anyways?! I've never seen one! Do they exist?! DO THEY?! I mean, if you're going to call the movie the BUTTER CREAM GANG make sure that butter cream bars exist first. To top it all off, the director makes the young actors in the film wear these extremely short shorts and ride around on bikes. I think he had a hidden agenda there. I could be wrong. Horrible film!

OK, so it's cheesy. It's lame at times. The first time I saw it, I thought, "Dumb!"
However, this movie gets better with time. It has heroes, damsels in distress, villians, great morals, and a idyllic view of small town Midwestern America (without the bitter Sinclair Lewis flavor). Now that I'm 10-12 years older, this is one of those feel-good movies that make you think, "I can do it!"
And if the 'realism' of the ending bothers you, I really suggest you stay away from most TV in general.

I don`t know what the other people who`ve rated this movie are thinking... This movie is horrible... it was given to us as a gift, for Christmas. We got 15 or 20 minutes into it and turned it off. The acting was lame, the story line cheesy - a kid from a "good" small town (which seems to be stuck in some sort of weird time warp between the 50's and 80's) goes to the "bad" big city and becomes corrupted - casting a bad light on all big cities.
The icing on the cake was the scene where the perfect, angelic kids, in their perfectly clean clothes and perfect hair-dos (soooo unrealistic) help the poor fallen widow by climbing through her 2nd story window... what about all the windows on the ground floor? Even before that, they ride for what seems like kms on their bikes, past numerous adults, not once asking for help - and has anyone there heard of 911?? This film... from the 15-20 min that I saw of it, is so phoney I would never buy one! The copy we have will go into our infamous "garage sale" give away bin. Cheese Factor 10+.
January 4, 2008 The ButterCream Gang Scott, Pete, Eldon, and Larry share fun and friendship as the "ButterCream Gang". They live in a small town called Elkridge. The group is temporarily separated when Pete moves to Chicago for the school year. He joins a local gang, a pretty bad gang. When Pete returns to Elkridge, his friends notice he has changed. They were wondering what happened back in Chicago. As Pete struggles, old friendships are challenged and the boys learn the true meaning of unconditional love.
My opinion on this movie is that it teaches us to hang out with the right kind of people (gang), and be who you are. It is approximately 95 minutes long. I loved this movie and I hope you enjoy it too.
I would recommend that you watch this movie because it will teach you responsibility and it may become your favorites. It is a great movie and I hope you enjoy it .
June 12, 2007A boy who was sent to Chicago he stayed their for a while when he got caught up in gangs like getting arrested he was sent back home. When he came back home he started a little gang banging their now it's up to his former friends to set him straight.
