About Girls Will Be Girls

Absolutely nothing is sacred in this explosively funny and wicked comedy featuring award-winning* performances by three of Hollywood's funniest actresses: Jack Plotnick, Clinton Leupp and Jeffery Roberson! Nothing stirs up the competitive spirit in haggard Hollywood has-been Evie Harris (Plotnick) like having to share a house with a younger actress like Varla (Roberson). Especially sinceVarla happens to be the daughter of Evie's now-deceased rival! But even as their saner roommate, Coco (Leupp), attempts to keep the peace, Evie's jealousy over Varla's burgeoning infomercial career is about to explode in the most spectacular, showstopping way possible!

Evie (Jack Plotnick) is a washed-up B-movie actress who is decidedly not aging gracefully. She lives with Coco (Clinton Leupp), her more grounded friend who functions mainly as Evie's maid and abuse magnet. Into their lives walks their new roommate Varla (Jeffery Roberson), an aspiring starlet whose late mother Marla was also Evie's most hated acting rival. All of them have dreams, of course. Evie's dreams involve drinking as many martinis as she can and then having plenty of sex with anyone available. Coco still pines for the hunky abortion doctor that operated on her many years ago. Varla hopes to become the actress that her mother couldn't while dealing with the advances of Evie's gorgeous son Stevie (Ron Mathews). Of course, there are hidden motives galore, and more than one mean-spirited one-liner. Plotnick is quite humorous, dropping the most of them and the clips of Evie performing in the 60's stinker "Asteroid" resemble nothing less than Morgan Fairchild on qualudes. Leupp reprises the role of Coco from his scene-stealing moments in the movie "Trick", and he imbues the character both with a humorous sense of bad luck and an immediately sympathetic personality. Roberson is not quite as spectacular as his co-stars, but he gives the naive, trusting Varla a great heart and a hilarious scene involving opera and cheese in a can. When it's funny, it's very funny. When it's in bad taste, it's even funnier. The sets and costumes (as you would expect) are all letter perfect and there are as many sight gags as there are funny lines. Need cheering up? Even When They Are Men

Amos Lassen

"Girls Will Be Girls" is one big laugh fest. I cannot remember when I laughed out loud so much. The cast of three women is played by three men who are full of lust and who have stars in their eyes. We get 80 minutes of high camp contained in homage to bad movies and bad wigs. There is a lot of tasteless humor and silly plot twists as well as over-the-top acting that all works together in a very positive way.
Evie, played by hunky Jack Plotnick, is a washed up B-movie actress who is aging fast and without grace. (I so rememble that remark). She shares her home with Coco (Clinton Leupp) who serves as her maid and is the target of abuse. A new roommate comes into their lives, Varla (Jeffrey Roberson) who is an aspiring starlet and whose mother, Marla, was Evie's arch rival. All of the three women have dreams--Evie dreams of being able to drink as many martinis as possible and then being able to have sex with anyone and everyone. Coco dreams of the abortion doctor who took care of her several years prior and Varla dreams of becoming an actress--the kind her mother never was. Another character is Evie's son who despite the fact that he lacks physical sexual endowment is extremely good looking. He has eyes for Varla and she has eyes on her career.
Even though all of the characters are males playing females, they are treated exclusively as females. The camp of the movie does not come from the fact that the men are acting in drag but from the melodrama and ridicularity of the plot. And this is due to the direction of Richard Day.
This is just the movie for you if you are feeling down or of you just need some new one-liners. I had a great time watching it and I think you will too.
