The only reason I bought this movie was because a friend would not shut up about it... and for once, with good reason. It's hilarious! It's quirky, in that most of the humor is subtle, but it's not a 'stupid' comedy by any means. Definately worth the $5 I invested... I would even consider spending $10 to replace it.

My title says it all.
Horrible acting, confusing flashbacks, unlikely ending, lowclass content, boring, painful, annoying, miserable, dreadful... Have I made my point? May 19, 2007

If you're the sort that dislikes dark comedies or just don't see the humor in them, then stay away. You're not meant for this amazing gem of satire, but for those of you like me, who appreciate what makes things different in life, you people will understand. Regardless of Yugos and Wheel of Fortune references, there is much to love about Drowning Mona. Mona (played fabulously by Bette Midler, and trust me, watching this movie is worth it for her performance alone) is a mean, horrible woman that the whole small town she lives in hates for varying reasons (and you'll see them, all incredibly funny). She takes a drive one day only to run off the road, straight off a cliff and right into her death. But her husband Phil (William Fichtner) and her son Jeff don't seem all that bothered by her death. Nor does anyone else in the town. In fact, everyone's elated that she's gone. But the police chief (Danny Devito) is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery no matter what. Drowning Mona also features great performances from Neve Campbell, Casey Affleck and Jamie Lee Curtis. Drowning Mona is at the top of my list of favorite movies. It is not for everyone though, so if you're one of those people who need shiny-happy-Hollywood to consider it a good movie, you've been warned. For those of you with a thirst for dark comedies, don't miss Drowning Mona. You'll want to watch it again and again. Absolutely positively without a doubt recommended! August 1, 2006

Drowning Mona. Here we have a movie plot that has big potential to become a great movie: Mona Dearly, a widely hated, rude, piggish, stupid, and annoying lady, drives her car over a cliff. Police suspect foul play, but seems as though everyone's a suspect- too many people hate her. Even her own son and husband.

However, the actual movie was horrible. I repeat: Drowning Mona was horrible. Confusing flashbacks combined with mediocre acting and strange turnings of events have made me suffer through more than an hour and a half of wishing the movie was over. And then it didn't even have a good ending. The ending was confusing, unlikely, and left you hanging.

Summary? I hated this movie. I don't see how anyone with a morsel of maturity and good sense would enjoy it. June 12, 2006
